The first time I heard about Justin Langer was when Steve talked about Justin to the press, before the series against Pakistan in 1999, when his selection was in doubt, someone asked Steve about Langer's form and whether he would be selected foe the series, then he said "Justin is the best number 3 batsman in Australia today and no question of dropping him". He played in that series with the faith and confidence of his skipper when nobody thought he would score any runs. It was a testing time for him

As the creator of this site, I don't have anything more about JL! His batting deeds speak for themselves. He's one of the grittiest batsman, a la Steve Waugh in the making, apart from being a very soft spoken gentleman.

I'm a member of Middlesex ccc

in England each of the 18 counties r allowed 1 overseas player
in 1998 we signed JL

in '98 JL was brilliant  1500 first class runs
+ he really was committed to the cause
we finished 16 of 18

in '99 he was Vice Capt. + even more motivated
1200 fc runs but missed 5 games

in 2000 captain - 1500 fc runs
but was always leading from the front - very committed to his adopted county

i met + spoke to him on a few occasions - autographed my copy of his book
he really cared about Middx

we will miss him this year as he will be touring with the Aussies

These are some of the messages I keep posting in Go Aussies Go from time to time. Am putting it up here also in the hope that someday when Justin would visit my site, he would read it all and recollect having met me (I hope) and identify me with the person who messages him.

[Justin Langer] Justin - I was browing through the Cooper and Lybrand ratings to update your ranking in my site (which is all about you). You certainly are a player of much higher caliber than the No. 23 you currently rank. Climb up Justin, you've got the whole of the Ashes to enter into the top 10 list to which you must rightfully belong. - The girl who met you after the Chennai test.

[Justin Langer] Justin, it seems very odd to see the matches without you playing. I associate you with the core Aussie team so much that I keep forgetting that its the ODI and not the tests. Am longing for the tests to start so that I can see you once again. - The girl who met you after the Chennai test.

[Justin Langer] Justin, on meeting you after the Chennai test match, I had promised myself that I'd travel to England to meet you once again. I had two options - to save up enough or make a trip officially which was coming up shortly. But now, I have not saved up enough and the recession in the IT field has made my official trip a pipe dream. Though meeting you at the Ashes is a distant probability, I wish you the very best. - The girl who met you after the Chennai test.

[Justin Langer] Justin, seeing the photos of the team at Gallipoli makes me sad that you are not amongst them. I can imagine you signing off the postcard you would've written after the visit with a "From Gallipoli, JL". Good luck for the Ashes anyway. - The girl who met you after the Chennai test.

[Justin Langer] Justin, I've been watching videos of the Indian tour and saw that you were dismissed everytime you looked set. It felt like you were in a big hurry to get the runs going. Dig in your toes in the Ashes and lets see some great innings from you. -The girl who met you after the Chennai test
